The only beef I can see anyone having with Aurora's entry is that it was just plain pictures. The little Gwen this year had a pumpkin, one of the other entries had a neat caption about rangers not being good ghost hunters. Just a little decoration around framing the pictures would give a Halloween feel to it. It is something I would suggest all costume entries do at least. Last year it was discussed into the ground that costumes are valid entries. Aurora's costume is wonderful and fully deserves a prize.
As for my scene, the first pic of it on the webpage is the same one I sent in. Its a big picture (Im running widescreen LCDs and just realized it probably requires sidescrolling for some people) and I honestly thought that showed enough detail to show off what it was. Anyhoo, Im probably going to rebuild parts of it this year and see how well it does in the next one. No rules against fixing and resubmitting if it didnt make the finals, right?

Hell, I'd say go for it. Maybe you could take several pictures that show the detail and combine them together? Make a series of pictures that tell a little joke story or something. I definatelly think you should have earned a win in this contest with your work. Maybe there are even better prizes next year you never know. Last year two of my friends posted costumes for the contest too. One of them earned a win and the other was not even in the honorable mentions if I recall right. I was very surprised even to the point that I thought maybe they lost her entry but who knows? It was a good looking costume photo with a perfectly halloweeny theme to it.
There are several types of pictures entered into the contest and since there are no categories the winners are a very colorful bunch. Not to mention the possible 'rip off' that seems to have gotten into the final voting this time around. We'll just have to wait and see what Regina finds out...

I was a finalist.. and was *slightly* disappointed in the judging, mainly because imo, Koreena's clay bone dragon alone was enough to get at least finalist... and with all that work, she didn't place at all.
I think we both had the same problem.. we may have put too much in our entry... pulling attention away from the time it took to make each part. Especially when the "entire company" had to sift through hundreds of entries, and prolly gave each entry a 2-3 second glance before discarding it.

Hehe. Your Dying Nightmare still makes me giggle.
Edit: No, the whole company didnt see and vote for them all.

So it went Regina, then members of the Community Team, then company voting.

I think most entrants, and without any kind of doubt all those that got a mention, went into final or won, should really be proud of their work. It showed dedication, passion, fun and a lot of humor .

A lot of effort and love went into her, and I'm overjoyed that she's gotten so much attention online (especially since no one recognized her at the convention I debut her at ;_; )

Yours was the most impressive on the contest. I loved it. Good job.
I think this one should have been included in the winners:

Regarding the controversy around Jaimla's entry. As I stated earlier, I have been in contact with the winner. According to the rules, they had to be disqualified, and the highest ranking winner in the next bracket had to be chosen as an alternate. This will also affect the Finalists bracket. You can expect the results of the decision to be reflected on the website sometime today.

I think it's sad that Anet put:Queeny Esther - USA and John Konwinski - USA as second place winners, they aren't even related for Halloween for God's sake.(not to mention the pictures suck^1000000) If Anet is doing this as an act of kindness toward younger people i guess that's great, but one would have gotten the point across. Two is just F-A-I-L, all i have to say.

Edited for bitterness:
I find it very hard to believe that I just happened to be #41 and got bumped up. Call me a sore loser or whatever. I am declining the prize, and unsure to what I will do next year. I don't want a pity prize and it is too unbelievable and coincidental.

Yes, I guess I am. But I sincerely believe that the only reason I got bumped up is because people said they couldnt believe my entry got overlooked. To do so is not fair judging, that is pandering and is insulting to my work and to other entrants in the contest.

Or you could just appreciate the fact that your entry was number 41 and take it at face value that you got this (Holds tips of pointer finger and thumb very close together) close to winning in the first place, and have a little bit of grace about the whole issue.... Congratulations BTW, it was a good entry.
And thank you, Regina, for taking care of that issue so quickly.
And AKB48, since when have costumes not been Halloweeny? o.0

I just received an email back on it from Regina, which did confirm that I was not actually next in line and that she was not planning to bump anyone into that space. A coworker had suggested that my entry be placed there. I do thank you, anonymous coworker, for the thought but I greatly prefer that my prizes be actually earned through a fair judging process. To give me a prize when our CM admits I did not earn it though judging would be wrong and unfair to all the other entrants. And thank you for speedily updating the website.

I understand how you feel but you know, the world is NOT fair, it never was and it never will, it's just how things goes. I mean, sometimes it seemed that the whole world is against you, and that may very well be true, but you just gotta overcome it, it's the world, and it's never fair.

It's interesting what pieces of information you've decided to post in public versus what you omitted. I don't blame you one bit, because it seems that you're extremely emotional about the matter. I would like to suggest that you perhaps take Operative 14's words under consideration.
The contest rules state that a prize "may" be awarded to the next highest ranking entrant. This means that it is up to our discretion what to do about it, if anything.
Many of the entries outside of the top 40 did not have clear consensus on whether they should be in the top 40 or not. This is because the standard of all entries was high. As such, a judgment call was made. It is erroneous to suggest that all of the entries outside of the top 40 did not go through a process of judging.
In this disqualification incident, we didn't actually have to bump any of the next-highest ranking winners up. We could have left the spot vacated by the disqualified entry empty.
